About Us

I launched this site on 15th November 2006 to bring together people interested in learning about the Verein Deutsch Drahthaar (VDD), the German breed club and its breeding and testing programmes.

I will be publishing articles, videos and photos about the VDD (the German Breed Club), the basics about how the German hunt test assessments work (run by the JGHV worldwide) and how to train Drahthaars for versatile gun dog role to promote the principles of this breed and the assessment methods used in Europe.

It is hoped that one day enough people will be interested in how a true Drahthaar should be trained for its versatile gundog role.

In particular we will be looking at the use of this breed for deer work and other larger game, as well as the more traditional role of gundogs in the UK as hunt, point, retrieve dogs for birds.

My name is Peter McCullough and the Deutsch Drahthaar is my passion. If you are looking for an unbiased opinion, look elsewhere - the Drahthaar is the best versatile gundog, bar none.

As well as being part of the UK's most successful German Wirehaired Pointer kennels - KIMMAX - started by my wife, Maxine, I am the only person from the UK ever to have successfully competed in the VDD's Internationale Hegewald with dogs I trained myself.

The VDD lays down strict regulations to ensure that only dogs that have proven their quality and working abilities can be bred from to ensure the future success of the breed.
