New Docking Law takes effect in England
Posted April 6th, 2007 |
All puppies born in England from today onwards will not be permitted to be docked unless they are one of the breeds that has a working exemption. Even then the rules in assessing whether the dog’s owner can prove a puppy will be worked are still being worked out.
A similar ban exists already in Wales (since 28th March 2007 and a total docking ban without any exemptions takes place in Scotland from 30th April 2007, though ironically - docked dogs born after the dates will still be able to be shown in Scotland yet can only be shown in UK and Wales if the public do not pay to enter the show.
This effectively means that no imported Drahthaars from Germany born after these dates will be able to appear at Crufts and many other shows (since all German Drahthaars are docked).
